Blogger Commenting Help is on the way…

I know these past three weeks have been very annoying for many of us. Yes, the problems started on May 11th and have steadily grown worse. I've been reading the help forums, your blogs and several other sources to try and find out just what the heck is going on. Service has been intermittent, our followers lists have disappeared and reappeared sporadically and the commenting issue has been widespread. Blogger has been very slow in keeping us informed and I know many of you don't even know where to check on their updates. In the last three weeks, they've only left three updates and yesterday's was the only one that really told us anything at all. You can read the full report here:

Essentially it now boils down to this:
"We are committed to swiftly fixing the problems and using our lessons learned to try to make sure that this type of issue doesn't happen again."

There is one person who has a blog appropriately called, The Real Blogger Status. This blogger not only tried to let us know more of what was actually going on, whoever it is was actively trying to aid those in distress on the Help Forums. Bloggers absence on the boards was noticeably nonexistent. Guess they were trying to solve the problem, but good customer service would dictate — tell the people what's going on. I know this is a free service for us, but believe me they make money off our blogs, so a little head's up would have been nice.

Help is on the way! Well, hopefully. I can't promise this will work for you, but it did work for two of my blogging friends when I told them what to do. Even if you're not personally having problems leaving comments, you should still read the section on changing how your comment form is on your blog, this will help those who are still experiencing problems be able to leave comments for you. I'll highlight that section to make it easier for you to skip to that solution.

First, you want to "clear cache" and "remove cookies" on your computer.

For Mac Safari users:
To remove cookies:

Choose Safari > Preferences and click Security.

Click Show Cookies.

Select one or more cookies and click Remove, or click Remove All.

When you finish removing cookies, click Done.

To empty the cache:
Choose Safari > Empty Cache, and then click Empty.

For other browsers, go to Google and type in "clear cache and cookies in XXXXXXXXXX" substituting your browser's name for the XXXs. Your browser would be Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome or whichever one you have chosen to surf the net with. This will take you to a choice of websites that will explain how to perform these operations on your system. Don't be afraid, it is easy and painless.

Now we're going to change how people leave comments for you. You can change this back once Blogger is back running as it should, but for now this is the most low-tech way and will make it easier for others to leave you comments. Even if you're not having problems leaving comments, you should still do this to make it easier for those who are to leave comments for you.


First, click on "Design" in the upper righthand corner of your blog. 

This will take you here:

Click on "Settings." This will take you here:

Click on "Comments" in the second bar. This will take you here:

Look down to Comment Form Placement and click on "Full Page"
Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Save Settings"

Now go back up to the top and sign out of your blog. This will take you to this page:

Close your browser.
Open your browser back up.
Go back to your blog and sign back in, BUT before you do, uncheck the box that says "Stay signed in"

Now sign back in.
This should get you back up and running while Blogger finishes the needed repairs. I can't guarantee it will work for you, but it did work for two of my blogging friends when I told them to try this.

If you're having other issues with your blog, I'm sorry I can't help you, I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I just researched this commenting issue for the past few days to try and find a solution and this is the best I could find. If it doesn't work, I'm sorry, I tried my best.
