I'm still nursing my ankle/foot injury, so I offered to apartment-sit for my sister while she's away with her Red Hat group in St. Augustine, Florida for the next four days. Yeah, sitting is something I've become an expert at the last two weeks, making me the perfect housesitter.
Sister's apartment is actually a nice getaway for me at this time though, the walls were starting to close in at home and I needed a different view and folks, I have a really nice view here. The apartments here are built in a large circle and each one has a view of a large manmade pond.
I found the above photo in Sister's picture folder to give you an idea of what I see when I'm sitting on her couch looking out the front window. What you can't see are the ducks, sea gulls, herons, egrets and other birds that call this pond Home Sweet Home. There are also turtles and squirrels to entertain me while I'm here. I'm going to share a neat turtle story with you next week when I'm back on my computer and have access to the photos I took. The pond is only about fifteen feet from her front door and the birds have been well-treated by the residents. Since all the apartments have only one bedroom, you seldom see children around, which translates into the birds not be chased away by an inquisitive kid or a stray football. The whole setting is very tranquil and I am pleased to be here.
Speaking of computers, I should tell you that I'm working on Sister's laptop and boy, is it different than working my Mac! Please, give me back my mouse, my keyboard, my files and MY photos! Could I just add a side note here and tell everyone out there to PLEASE turn off the date stamp on your digital cameras. Honestly, you can tell me when you took the pic and I promise to believe you, lol.
Since I am away from my computer, I have no access to my email. If you sent me an email in the last couple of days or if you're planning to in the next four days, I won't be able to read and respond to them until I get back home on Tuesday. The same is true for those who interact with me on Facebook. This is becasue I have NO idea what my passwords are; you have no idea what I went through so that I could sign into my blog to be able to post and leave comments on your blogs while I'm here.
I do, however, have something to share with you and it involves this cute tote bag:
For the second year in a row, Rita @ BeachHouseLiving is having a giveway in honor of World Oceans Day and believe me, you don't want to miss! I was the lucky recipient last year of her generous giveaway and when the box arrived I was AMAZED at everything that was inside the huge box that arrived at my door. If I were at home I'd show you a photo of what Rita sent and your eyes would pop out of your head, trust me!.To see what's included INSIDE this tote, just click on the word "giveaway" above and you'll be whisked away to her wonderful blog. You won't believe what lucious treats she has in store for this year's winner. Rita's giveaway will end at 11:59pm on June 8th, so don't delay, hurry on over and be sure to tell her aloha from me.
Speaking of World Oceans Day, it's getting closer and closer to the World Oceans Day Celebration here at The Hut, if you haven't heard about it, just cick on the button near the top of my sidebar and learn how to link up your beachy post from June 8th until June 12th. Let's Party!
That's it for now dear ones, I won't be posting until I get back home, but I will be stopping by to visit you, so put on the coffee and cut the cake - I'll be there soon!
Note: Pina coladas or strawberry daiquiris served with shrimp cocktails will work also.
Today's Ocean Fact: The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the four main oceans. Although its' name means peaceful, if can be very rough! It is 64 million square miles. The Atlantic Ocean is the busiest. Many ships cross the Atlantic, carrying cargo between the Americas, Africa, and Europe. It is 32 million square miles.

Great post on Memorial Day - and World Oceans Day (I will be participating!). I had to laugh when I read your "Red Hat" mention. Did you happen to see Rules of Engagement last week on CBS? Hysterical show, anyway, they had some Red Hat women on there and it was very funny...Have a great Memorial Day weekend! It is supposed to be sunny and in the 80s in NJ! Yay! Come on over for a pina colada! Cheers!
Shelley
I'm sorry about your foot...I must have missed a post. I hope it happened while you were doing something fun! It loos like you have some nice digs to stay in while your sister is gone. The pond and fountain is beautiful. Does she have a pool you can relax by?
I am using my husbands laptop as mine is at the shop. Although there is a big difference in regular computers and laptops...I am feeling the difference in his and mine. I like mine better and I, too, get frustrated that all of my pictures aren't stored in here. I can't send emails on his either and I'm not sure why. I can reply to them...just not send them.
Still wondering what to post on the 8th. Oh, thanks for the link to Rita's blog.
Hope you have a good holiday weekend. Make up a batch of Pina Coladas and enjoy!
XO,
Jane
I'm getting my World Oceans Day post ready too. What are you going to do without your Mac? There there - it will be ok :D
Love ya!
PS - hope the foot is getting better & better every day
What a great reminder for us to honor those who have and continue to serve our country! I'm glad you are getting a few days away at your sister's place. Like the song says..."a change will do you good!" Happy Memorial Day!
Kat :)
You are so funny Rhonda!
Great tribute and reminder regarding Memorial Day!
What a nice view! I know you will enjoy your weekend at your sister's. You need to take care of that ankle so we can go hunting for driftwood!
Take care my friend and have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
Hugs,
Tracy
Thank you for the Memorial Day reminder. As the daughter of a wounded in combat soldier the subject is dear to my heart.
Thanks for the giveaway mention too!
Hi Shell Belle - hope you feel better - I've linked up to Beach House's Living's giveway (yay) -
If anyone is in the south florida area the forgotten soldiers organization holds a lovely Memorial Day tribute around 11am ...
Best Wishes to all -
Linda (aka beachside cottage)
PS-Raining right now in South Florida
FINALLY!!! Blogger is allowing me to comment on your post. (Still cannot do that on several others.)
Glad you are enjoying the view at your sister's house. It's a lovely view! And a good change of pace for you. Keep your foot rested...we need you back in top form
I have plans for a giveaway for your "party", too. I'm not going to tell you what it is...yet. (HA!) When you get home, let's talk. I'm hoping my son can teach me how to create a button while he's here this weekend. If not, I may need a tutorial...
Have a fabulous weekend...
Hugs!!!
Jane
Hi
Thank you so much for explaining to an Australian what Memorial day in the US is about. I posted about ANZAC day here a month or so back and it seems to have a similar meaning.
I am very much into military history and it is a well known and acknowledged fact that the US saved Australia from Japanese invasion in WW2. So today I will pay my respects to all those fine young US and Aussie soldiers who have made us what we are today.
I hope your ankle sures up soon.
Best Carolyn
Shellbelle, sorry you are still having foot issues, but a pina colada would probably help loads...and I'd be glad to share one with you:) Love your sister's place! You are a good sister to help out, but I sure would miss my computer if I was having to do the same! We all should definitely remember Memorial Day and "thank a soldier." Sure hope you can see this comment. I'm having blogger issues. It won't let me sign in to my google account and my blog isn't showing my followers! I see around blogland that others are having various issues too so hopefully all will be fixed very soon! Take care and enjoy your little vacation.
I don't know that I'd ever go back to a PC. Apple is just about better in every way!
Hi Rhonda
I enjoyed seeing the picture of the lake at your sister's place. It looks a beautiful setting. I can imagine you enjoying the view and watching all the birds there.
Hope your ankle improves soon.

Hi Dear Rhonda
Sorry to hear your foot is still troubling you.. you really do things with style don't you!! hehehe Although looks like you have a lovely view.. if only that date stamp wasn't floating out there in the pond.. hehe
So... We have our Anzac Day.. and I think most people here still appreciate the sentiment of the day.. although perhaps not the younger generation...
I must pop back over to Rita's and make sure I'm in her giveaway.. I love all her creations.. always lovely
Have a great weekend.. ciao xxxx Julie
I will include your ocean day button on my next weekend post. I should be in Miami north beach by then!!! Hope you're healing well..., and will soon be back with your own computer. Love the fact you add to each post!
Hi Shellebelle!
I'm sorry your foot is bothering you -- I know how annoying foot pain is as I had astress fracture in my foot last year and then plantar facititis. Ouchy! Thank goodness I'm back to walking everywhere again...my favorite activity.
Thanks for you wonderful comments on my Memorial Day post! I hope to be able to take some photos of the ceremonies but I'm not sure how many I'll be able to take as I am volunteering tonight and tomorrow to help with the events and I'm not sure where I'll be stationed.
Your sister's place looks lovely! Enjoy, and feel better!
I just moved the icon you made up in my sidebar and then got a comment from you! I'm glad you are getting a change of scenery while you recover! Looks beautiful! And I rushed over to enter the giveaway, too! I'm going to go kiss a veteran right now...my hubby earned a purple heart in the war! I think I'll give him a kiss AND a hug! Hugs to you, my friend! Take care of yourself! ♥
Aïe!!! I'm reading this pretty late, so I hope your ankle and foot are all better! I'm still going to daily rehabilitation sessions for my knee and ankle as a result of that bloody bike accident last April: not fun!!!
On the plus side, it does look like you had a nice view! ;o)
Time stamps on photos?! *shudder* I hated those things WAAAAAY before we all went digital... ugh!!!
