In honor of the father of my children
who bravely served in Vietnam,
receiving the Purple Heart
after being wounded in battle.
Jim returned home safely from war,
but passed at the young age of thirty-six
of lung cancer brought on by the
effects of Agent Orange.
Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice for your country
and for giving me two beautiful children.
We love you and miss you everyday.
sister to a Vietnam veteran,
granddaughter to a WWI veteran,
great-granddaughter to all my
ancestor grandfathers who have
fought for our freedom
since they came to this country in 1607,
and aunt to a niece and nephew who
are currently serving
I want to thank all those who have
and all those who continue
to serve our country.
On this Memorial Day,
the day we have set aside to
honor those who made
the ultimate sacrifice
by giving their lives,
to each of them
and to their families.
I want to give a special thanks
for providing freedom and safety in our lives.

What a beautiful post. I am so appreciative for everyone who has served our country. We would not have the freedom today if were not for those brave men and women. What a tragedy about your husband and this was such a nice way to remember him. Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day.

Oh, Rhonda...I didn't know!!! This is such a beautiful tribute...I'm sure there were both good and sad memories while writing it. You definitely made a beautiful bride. To lose such a young husband...I can only imagine how difficult that was. I very much appreciate those who serve and have served our country, especially those who were wounded or died in combat. Too many young lives are lost due to countries not being able to get along. I am so very sorry for your loss...hope the sweet memories will always lift you up.

I'm so sorry about your husband and all the others you've loved and lost. Must have been a difficult day for you...as it must be every year.

What a wonderful post. I am so sorry that your husband passed so early on but I am forever grateful for his and all the other men and women who proudly served and protected this nation. I love your photos, your wedding picture is beautiful.

How sad, so young. God bless him for his service and forgive the people who treated the Vietnam vets so badly when they came home.
My friend is a Marine General who served then, as a LT and he says he will never forget how they were treated.

I can also imagine the painful period of having your young husband away and his return couldn't have been easy either.
