I can't tell you how much I love this video; this momma bird just reminds me of what all of us have gone through as mothers ourselves. We built our nests, we "hatched" our young, we nurtured them come rain or shine, we kept them from harm, we raised them to be fine upstanding citizens, and then one day we turned around and they were gone and they just left us standing there (luckily without a worm in our beaks). They flew the nest, they went out into the big world and built their own nests.
Now I know some of you still have your fledglings at home and haven't experienced this emptynest syndrome yet. For you I say, enjoy every minute…well, at least cherish every moment — the good and the not so good. One day you'll be like the rest of us — sharing those memories with your adult children. You'll laugh over the antics that at one time drove you crazy and shed a few more than a few happy tears over their accomplishments.
The other thing you'll be doing for sure is waiting for that phone to ring on a day like this and hearing those four little words…

Such a sweet post, Rhonda! I watched the video...it reminded me of the time a robin built her nest right under my office window and I watched the whole thing...and I saw the last little baby take his first run...I always wondered if the mom ever came back to the nest after they'd gone...now I think maybe she did after watching the video. :( kinda sad when they're all gone...or not.
Awww she looked kinda sad at having an empty nest.
We had a mockingbird nest and hatch babies in our topiary next to the door. (about where the mermaid is now). It was fun to see the eggs, hatchlings, and growth of the baby birds!

I'm not happy about the impending empty nest thing myself. Thankfully I have a few more years to get used to the idea and hopefully they won't fly too far away from the coop.

As a Mom who's first born has recently left the nest and is making a life of his own and a daughter who leaves for NYU in August, is it okay that I cried when the Mama robin came back to the empty nest with a worm in her beak?
I still have the littlest one at home in the nest. I'm going to make sure I sit on him and never get up. Hubs can bring home the worms!
I can see where you get your beauty, your Mother was gorgeous.

Sweet video. Kind of sad at the end - but she did a good job taking care of them till they were old enough to take care of themselves.
Awwwwwwwww when they were all gone and she came back....still it's what we do, take care of them until they fly away. Happy Mothers Day!
Rhonda, thank you for sharing. I love the video...so poignant when the mother came back to an empty nest. When I watch the ever hungry children take and take from its mom, I am humbled by how our mothers overlook our selfishness, our careless outbursts; how she is quick to develop amnesia over them, but have elephant memories when we do the tiniest kind gestures.

Oh Rhonda...that video made me cry from the beginning to the end, but mostly the end. How beautiful, sweet, and yet so sad. WOW!!! I guess I am lucky, my daughter still lives at home, but is about ready to get out there on her own, and I am so not ready for this. My heart is breaking just thinking about it, but I know it's best for her to grow even more as a young woman, she is just my only child, and I wish I could keep her here with us forever, but that's just not right, but it's just all part of being a Mother, with endless love. Thank you so much for sharing the video with us.

Oh my gosh I cried! She just flew in and dropped the worm, like "where did my babies go!?" It is amazing at all the things we do for our kids, what our mothers have done for us. I am so happy that I am close to my mom and see her almost everyday. My kids are still small but the years do go by so fast, too fast.
The picture of your mom is beautiful, she looks like she has a gentle soul, much like you. :)

Well I've got tears in my eyes. Last year I watched my baby ducks go from hatchlings to the day they learned to fly. Bird mommas personify everything a good momma should be. Your momma was the best! She would be so proud of the woman you are.

I absolutely LOVE this video! Every year we have wrens build nests in the ferns on our front porch. One nest is now empty with the babies having flown off...we're awaiting another brood anyday. We also had a cardinal build a nest right outside our kitchen window. We had the best time watching Mama and her one little baby. I even saw him when he flew off! Thanks So much for sharing!
