Some of you may recognize the images below from your youth…
I LOVED piling into the back of my family's station wagon on a Saturday night to head to the local drive-in theater. We went to see movies like Old Yeller (bring on the hankies), The Parent Trap, 101 Dalmations, The Blob, The Crawling Hand (I had nightmares for years), Mary Poppins and Psycho.
We'd get there nice and early to get a good spot. While my parents visited with friends who had also brought their families, all of us kids would go and play on the playground located under the BIG screen. They would come over the speakers and let us know when it was time to get back to our cars when the movie was about to begin. There were always two movies and cartoons and the much anticipated INTERMISSION! We'd head back to the playground, while daddy went to the concession stand to get hot dogs, cokes, popcorn and candy. My gosh, it was such fun. We always wore our pajamas, because by the time we reached home, we were fast asleep and my parents would carry us in straight to bed.
Did you go to the drive-in when you were young? The last movie I can remember seeing in a theater like this was Star Wars and that was in the late 70s if I remember correctly.
Anyway, enough walking down memory lane, my purpose today is to tell you that I'm taking a short intermission, but I won't be going to the playground. I will, however, probably be wearing my pajamas.
I am discombobulated, going crazy, unorganized and just darn tired. This Saturday is Jane's Art at Home show and I am frantically trying to get more driftshell pieces ready for that and for my upcoming Etsy store opening.
I finally decided that I need to take a quick break from blogging this week, so I can pull it all together. BUT, if you know me at all, you just know I had to do a quick google search to find something interesting to share…

Yes! I remember drives in as we lived not to far from a few that were still around in the 70's and early 80's. I even worked briefly in the canteen at one, during high school. It was fun to have them around but then they all fazed out. I understand completely about taking a break and hope it is very productive for you! Best of luck with the show too!
I so miss drive in theaters!! The first one we saw was Star Wars and I think the last one was like Stroker Ace or something with Burt Reynolds. :) We would go in our jammies to and go from car to car with friends, it was such a great time.

Well I think I went to the drive-in more as a teenager.. and it was only a few short years after that that most of them closed down.. I wonder if there is still any around... I liked the fact that you had your own space to get comfy and relax and nobody's big head in front of you.. haha

My arms are aching...my fingers are numb...and even my legs have cramped. I just finished a very detailed "funky sea turtle" for the show! (This one has taken HOURS to complete...But I like it! Now' let's all go to the LOBBY...
My last drive-in movie was Laurence of Arabia...and I was madly in love with Peter O'Toole!!! Oh the childhood fantasies of riding in jeeps or on camels across the desert...white robes flowing in the winds...Ahhhhhhhhh....

We used to go the drive in all the time. It was so much fun! We would all wear are PJ's too. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. And thanks for your support on the March - attendance was estimated at 9 to 11 thousand! Kat
Great memories at the drve ins with family. In our town, we have a drive in, one of the last few! It is still fun as a nadult. Good Luck at the show.

I've seen so many of the movies you mentioned at the drive in as a kid. The last time we went to the drive in was 2004. We took the grandkids to see Shrek2. The local drive in has closed, but it sure was fun to take my grands to the very same drive in I used to go to at their age.
Getting inventory made, and ready to show/sell is hard work! I'm sure you will sell out in no time! Enjoy your 'break'. Have fun!

My husband still teases me about making out in front of the drive-in concession stand. I don't remember it quite like he does (he remembers me as the instigator!)
We still hold hands in movies.

Oh, yes...I remember all this! My boyfriend (now husband) and I went to many a drive-in movies...think we might have made out as much as or more than we watched the movie. Our favorite drive-in was in our college town. You could order the most wonderful PIZZA at the concession stand. When it was ready they would call you over the speaker by name! A great movie, delicious pizza, and some good kissing...what more could you ask for?
I used to love the drive in movie theater!!! The first movie I watched in one was Bambi:):)

I've been thinking of you. Have had workmen doing things, and I escaped and am using a server that it sooooo slow. So I switched to my "stick" which costs a million dollars a minute. But it sure beats trying to blog like a turtle.

What a great post! I loved going to the drive-in! It brings back happy memories and a simpler time.
The last one I went to was in 1983 and it was ET. My son was a little boy and I wanted him to experience it. Although he probably hardly remembers now since he was only 3.

I have wonderful memories of going to the drive in with my parents. Going out to the car in my pj's, my mom putting pop corn in a brown grocery bag (I guess that was before we all found out about roaches in them..yuck) and coolaide in a big round thermos! Remember too the play ground and the intermission stand!
Would you please pass me some napkins - I have butter from my popcorn all over my fingers :D
