Within walking distance of my house are the Florida Botanical Gardens, small by most public garden standards, the FBG consists of 30 acres of cultivated gardens and 90 acres of natural areas.
I love visiting the gardens at any time of the year; they are a wonderful place to wander aimlessly, to go to for an impromptu picnic, to sit and reflect and to take visitors.
Today I thought I would share with you some of the plants that grow at FBG; many you may never have seen before unless you live in an area like Florida. These photos were all taken on Mother's Day this year. Enjoy!

How often do you see a sign like this at your local botanical gardens?

My favorite sighting at the gardens on this day was this one:

My wonderful son, Jim, who showed up unannounced on my doorstep to celebrate Mother's Day with me.
I hope you enjoyed seeing our gardens, now stop in at Susan's @ A Southern Daydreamer for links to other Outdoor Wednesday participants.

The perfect "Mothers Day" gift...and these photos are so beautiful...
The gardens are beautiful, and your photos are very inspiring. I have grown accustomed to seeing the alligator warnings, but a local man just pulled his dog from the jaws of one. The dog was okay, but the gator swung around and took a chunk out of the man's arm. BTY, What a great picture of your handsome son!

A very nice and enjoyable post. Very inspiring.
That looks like a really great place, but not being able to molest the gators just takes away some of the joy. ;-)
The flowers are amazing.
The vibrant colors are amazing. What a good Mother's day!
Spectacular photographs! You have a great "eye" and selected very photogenic subject matter!
I appreciated the comment on my silverware post. So does silver tarnish more in Florida? I've heard mold and mildew can be more of a problem there (especially if the air conditioning goes out).
You are so lucky to be within walking distance of such gorgeousness! I am extremely jealous of the tropical flowers that we don't get up north. But I guess the grass is always greener (or the flower is always brighter? ;-) on the other side.
I'd have to agree with the sign...molesting a 'gator is never really a good idea. :-)
Hope you're having a great week!
They're all so gorgeous. What a great place to visit!
Rhonda, your flower photos are fabulous. I haven't been to those botanical gardens but I sure would love to visit them. My passion is gardening and flowers. Your mother's day was so special with your handsome son showing up to share it with you. Our children can make our day anytime.
Hugs...Jeanne
Hi Rhonda
The Florida Botanical Gardens looks lovely ...most of those flowers were new to me! Some almost looked like hand knits.
I'll make sure to leave the gator feeding to the experts if I ever visit..lol
A son showing up on Mother's Day is always a welocme surprise!
I remember visiting Cypress Gardens as a kid. The plant life was amazing! I don't like the hot weather, but you do have truly wonderful plants!
These are so beautiful! I admire your photography skills.
